Welcome!

* We're still under construction, so please forgive any faulty code for the time being! We'll be adding new resources to the library and classroom as we go, so check back in once and a while to see the new selections. This page is best viewed on a computer, though we'll be trying to make it more responsive over time.

This is the Marigold Town Free School, please make yourselves at home. This page serves as the introduction to the concept and has a little bit of background about this specific free school!

If you're interested in reading about different education styles, criticisms of the current public school system, or ideas about what should take it's place, feel free to check out the library!

If you want to study something (other than educational theory) on your own, the classroom has plenty of resources for all sorts of subjects. If you can't find anything on a specific subject, feel free to put in a request in the Cbox over to your right, and we'll get on it right away!

General comments, suggestions, and questions can also be left in the Cbox.

But what is a Free School?

As the name implies, a "free school" is literally an institution of learning that is of no cost to those who attend it. These are independent from the formal school system that aim to be autonomous and nonhierarchical. (We're using the anarchist definition of 'free school,' different from the British term and not entirely synonymous with the American free school movement of the 1960s).

We'll be adding some books on the history of the movement and its modern day examples in the library as soon as we can!

And who are you?

I'm just some guy who likes to read a lot and didn't care much for high school because of the time it took away from actually learning. If this site can save someone like me a little bit of time when looking to teach themself something their math teacher failed to properly explain, that's pretty much all I could ask for. (There's only one of me, I just think it's neat to type in first person plural.)

If you're interested in seeing what else I'm up to, here's my other site.
